Instructors That Care About Children’s Milestones
I enrolled my 3-year son in the Get Ready for School program at the Lang’s location and I am so impressed. He enjoys sharing his new found knowledge with us whenever an opportunity arises.
Success stories from parents, volunteers, and community members.

In the six months that my son has been attending the Get Ready for School program, I have seen dramatic improvements in his speech. What I’m even more excited about is that other people are noticing too.
My daughter showed significant improvements in her literacy skills because of the Letters, Sounds and Words program. I decided to volunteer my time in the program on the days I was off from work, and very quickly found that my volunteer position provided a greater sense of accomplishment than my career did at the time. This changed my life forever.
I have always wanted to be a teacher, ever since I was a little girl. Volunteering with Strong Start was crucial to solidifying my desire to work with younger children and subsequently encouraged me to enroll for the Early Childhood Educator Fast Track program at Conestoga College.
My daughter Julia is currently enrolled in the Get Ready for School program at Williamsburg Community Centre. She is reading! A few weeks ago when we were driving, I heard her sound out “jeep” as we approached another vehicle, which was amazing!
I’ve had the opportunity to work with 6 children in Strong Start’s Letters, Sounds and Words program at Jean Vanier Catholic School, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s just so much fun getting to know each child and figuring out their learning style. Each and every one is different and the games in the program reflect these differences. We laugh, we play, and we laugh some more. I just can’t say enough good things about this program.
When our three-year-old son Ryder started the Strong Start program, we weren’t sure how he would do. He’s always been a smart boy, and makes friends easily, but recently he stopped listening and became what other mom’s called a ‘Threenager.’
Kenny is an SK student and was in the 10-week program, 3 days a week. We can’t believe the push the program gave him. At the start of the program, he was reading at level one. By the end of the 10-weeks he was reading at level three and excitingly trying to get to level four!
Rhys is an adorable, funny and strong-willed little boy. He’s always been advanced in his gross motor skills, but when it came time to separate from Mommy, he just couldn’t do it. I didn’t even have the option of going back to work, because it would have been too hard for Rhys. I was worried how he was even going to go to Junior Kindergarten in September.
My son’s name is Oliver. He’s left-handed, red haired, and very quiet. He has a heart of gold. He wants to protect everyone. When we play games, he even wants someone else to win. He’s very shy, and we love him very much.
