Story shared by Volunteer Coach, Aimee Tyrell
When my one and only daughter started Junior Kindergarten, I actively tried to stay involved in her school. I spent one day a week volunteering in her classroom and was eager to become more involved.
One day, her teacher sent home a form to attend Strong Start Volunteer Coach training and I am so glad she did. The training was quick, easy, and in no time, I was assisting children with reading and letter recognition through simple and fun games. I have now been a Volunteer Coach for two years and I always look forward to the new sessions. Last session, I worked with 6 children and cannot express in words just how rewarding it is. The children are always excited to see me, and are happy to have some one-on-one time, all while having fun and learning! We smile and laugh a lot during our times together.
I will continue to promote the importance of this program and the impact is has on children’s lives. It only takes a couple hours a week to make a big difference in a little life!
