On Sunday, January 29th, 2017, Strong Start participated in Family Literacy Day Kitchener-Waterloo at Conestoga Mall. Over 17 different organizations came together to host booths and organize literacy activities that were fun for the whole family. Erik Traplin performed, local author Andrew Kolb read his story Edmund Unravels, and the French Children’s Choir entertained attendees. Every child that visited also received a free book to help build their home library.

Strong Start’s booth was hosted by our Get Ready for SchoolTM Program Co-ordinator, Iwona Dmitrienko, Director of Program, Colette Moffat, Get Ready for School Instructor, Susie Gamble, and Letters, Sounds and WordsTM Trainer, Caroline Stamp. Approximately 220 children visited the Strong Start booth to play fun and interactive games. We also had the opportunity to hear stories from Strong Start volunteers, and parents of children who had participated in one of our programs. What a wonderful day! There truly was something for everyone and we look forward to the event next year.
