Peter Braid, former MP of Kitchener – Waterloo, has always been a champion for the charitable sector across Ontario, understanding its importance in supporting strong communities. He rallied for more tax incentives for charitable giving, and supported many causes close to his heart, across Waterloo Region and beyond. Peter Braid is a friend to Strong Start, and understands how important it is to help children learn to read. In 2013, he even highlighted our work in the House of Commons. See video.
On May 3, 2016, Strong Start was honoured to be the charity beneficiary of an event held in celebration of Peter’s years of community service in Kitchener-Waterloo and in recognition of his contributions. Individuals from a variety of backgrounds, were in attendance, and shared kind remarks for Peter’s commitment to community. Strong Start’s Executive Director, Machelle Denison, Development Co-ordinator, Christina Proctor, Director of Operations, Caitlin Smith, and Administration and Program Support, Darlene Koebel, were on hand to share our story with attendees, and thank Peter personally for his support.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Peter, for selecting Strong Start as the beneficiary of this event, which raised over $3,000 to help more children learn to read. We also say thank you to Ian Mclean, President and CEO of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, his event committee, and Dana Walton, Project Coordinator at the Greater Kitchener Waterloo of Commerce, for all their work to organize this wonderful celebration. To all attendees, we genuinely appreciate your support of Peter Braid and Strong Start.
