Volunteer Opportunities
Join us in helping young children reach their potential. As a Strong Start® volunteer, you can expect to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the life of a child.
Work one-on-one with a child in our Letters, Sounds and WordsTM program
Play short games and activities with children in senior kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 to help them practise their early literacy skills. Attend two, 2-hour training sessions prior to working one-on-one with a child in a local school. Once trained, the minimum time commitment to work with one child is 30 minutes, once a week for a 10-week period.
Work with preschool children in our Get Ready for SchoolTM program
Assist preschool aged children during play and learning activities. Volunteer with a team of trained instructors to provide children with meaningful learning experiences. Attend one, 2.5-hour training session prior to working with the children. The program is offered mornings and afternoons (times vary by site), from January or February to June of each year, in selected community centre sites across Waterloo Region. The minimum time commitment is two hours per week, which represents a single class time. A regular, multi-week commitment is appreciated.
Assemble Program Games and Activities
Volunteer as an individual or as a group to assemble the games, activities and kits used in our Letters, Sounds and WordsTM, Get Ready for SchoolTM, and Baby Connections® programs. Individuals and groups can be accommodated for a day, half a day or a few hours at our National Program Deployment Centre at 1-565 Kumpf Dr., Waterloo, ON N2V 1K3.
