Mateo’s story in the Get Ready for SchoolTM program, as shared by his mother, Kimberly Angel
I just wanted to share some feedback regarding our experience with the Get Ready for SchoolTM program at Country Hills Community Centre in Kitchener.
First and foremost, the staff and volunteers are wonderful. Each day the children are greeted with great enthusiasm. My son, Mateo, has taken a special interest in Lena and Catherine. I love the fact that I am able to get feedback each day, and can ask questions. The Lead Instructor, Sonja, is very professional, organized, and approachable. The parent sessions are very informative as well.
Prior to attending, Mateo had limited knowledge of the alphabet. Now, nearly 3 months later, he can identify most letters and accompanying sounds. The books that are sent home serve as great practice and reinforcement. Mateo is excited to identify letters in posters, billboards, pictures, etc.
Overall, I see a huge difference in Mateo. He looks forward to attending each week and playing with his new “friends”. His confidence has grown and he is able to tell me what they learned, what was discussed, the books that were read and more!
Prior to Strong Start, I was concerned about my son’s readiness for Junior Kindergarten. But that is no longer the case. He has shown so much growth in the last 3 months. I am very excited for him to start school in the fall.
