On March 30, 2016, Strong Start was lucky enough to benefit from a generous fundraising event held in support of our early literacy programs. The family-friendly celebration, organized by Conestoga College Public Relations students Bryce Morel, Charles Jack, Kate Moore, and Kelsey Dunsmore, was held at THEMUSEUM, and featured a photo booth, silent auction, raffle, and live music from local musicians. The group of students chose to support Strong Start as both Bryce and Charles had younger siblings who struggled learning to read, personally connecting with our cause.

They did a wonderful job organizing and hosting the event, raising $2,292.65 to ensure more young children in our community reach their potential. Our thanks as well to Heffner Toyota and Snapd Kitchener-Waterloo for their financial support.

The event was truly a success with attendees of all ages enjoying the food, music, and chance to browse THEMUSEUM exhibits. Machelle Denison, Executive Director, Leslie Tinning, Letters, Sounds and WordsTM Program Co-ordinator, and Christina Proctor, Development Co-ordinator, were on hand to answer attendees questions and share stories from our programs. Leslie captivated the crowd with her reading of Sean’s Story, showcasing the difference a volunteer’s gift of time can make.

We extend our sincere thanks to Bryce, Charles, Kate, and Kelsey for all of their hard work to make the event enjoyable and fun for all. We also thank the Conestoga College Public Relations program for this community assignment, and all of the silent auction/raffle donors including Borealis Bar and Grille, Hauser, Heffner Toyota, The Truth Beauty Company, Uptown Woods, and Good Vibe Juice Company, for their gifts. To all attendees, we genuinely appreciate the support.
